Grounded in Practice. Built for Impact.
We started Manta to close the gap between data and decision-making—for those doing the work of driving economic mobility.
The Origin
Organizations on the front lines of education, equity, and economic mobility often have data—but lack the tools or capacity to make sense of it.
Manta was founded on a simple but urgent idea: there’s far more data in the world than there are people equipped to analyze it.
Too often, access to meaningful insights is limited to organizations with technical teams and deep resources—while those driving the most progress in economic mobility are left to piece together their own solutions with limited time, tools, and support.

The Wave
What began as a question for Harvard Economist Roland Fryer and Technologist Matt VanNuys—how do we democratize data science?—has grown into a movement to give under-resourced teams access to the power of understanding the “why” behind their data.
The Impact
Michelle Rhee, a nationally recognized education reform leader, serves as Manta’s Lead Advisor. Drawing on her experience transforming public systems, she guides Manta's strategy to meet the demands of the real world, where time is short, data is messy, and stakes are high.
